Code Mobile

Code Mobile Lab

The goal for the CodeMobile is to put technology in the hands of young Nigerians who may not otherwise have the opportunity. The initial idea we had for the Code Mobile Lab was to repurpose 50 seater buses and convert them to technology labs in the communities we serve, while working on this project we realise that it wasn’t sustainable due to the cost of maintaining a bus, so we changed the plan to repurposing 40ft containers for a technology lab.

Our Code Mobile Initiative focuses on inner-cities and remote communities. The lab hosts rigorous computer programming classes using the same tools professionals are using around the world and facilitated by our network of volunteer world class software developers. The labs also serves as a space for young people to share and collaborate, experience technology in a different way including VR for education.

Education is the cornerstone of sustainable development yet there are currently 1.8 billion young people (aged 10-24) worldwide and over half of this population will not have the skills necessary to participate in the emerging global workforce. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) clearly recognize that this gap must be closed, as the international community more explicitly addresses the challenges of quality and equity in education.
